Electromobility

One of the most important keys to a more sustainable future is the rapid implementation of the mobility transition. And this is not without good reason as in the European Union, transport is responsible for a significant share of all CO2 emissions and is the only area in which greenhouse gas emissions have increased in the past three decades. This is precisely where electromobility comes into play, laying the foundations for climate-neutral traffic. The number of newly registered electric vehicles is continuously increasing – and with it, the need for sustainable solutions for operating auxiliary systems such as air-conditioning and air compressors or hydraulic and power steering pumps. KEB Automation provides users with the necessary drives, controls and software solutions out of one hand.

The T6 APD provides a scalable and modular DC-AC inverter system with integrated power electronics, an intelligent mobile control unit and EMC filter solutions. It converts direct current from the HV-DC source into alternating current to drive electric motors. In addition, bistable brakes and clutches, for example in pick-up trucks or driverless transport vehicles, enable energy-free engagement/disengagement and hold devices and equipment in place with energy savings of up to 99 percent in battery-powered systems.

SOLUTIONS FOR THE ELECTRIFICATION OF ANCILLARY DRIVES

KEB offers innovative system solutions for the electrical operation of ancillary systems in vehicles, which noticeably increase efficiency. From power steering pumps, air compressors, air-conditioning and ventilation systems, CO2 heat pumps and transport refrigerating machines to hydraulic pumps, heating units, ePTOs and generator applications – the application scenarios are numerous and the potential for CO2 savings is huge.

Over ten years ago, KEB launched its “E-mobility” project and the product development of the T6 APD modular drive system for the commercial vehicle industry. Today, the T6 APD is optimally tailored to individual customer requirements, and stands out with its cutting-edge technology and drive performance. There is always a focus on modularity, EMC compatibility, safe and flexible connection technology, scalability and innovative software solutions.

Safety and Security

Our development phases depend on ASIL and SIL. Operational safety and cyber security use similar development processes. Here, the focus is on identifying and assessing the hazards and risks that can arise from the intended functions. Cyber security is a multi-dimensional concept that covers the entire technical life cycle and the entire organisation of a company. As regulation UN R155 is relevant to the type approval (homologation) of electric vehicles, it primarily concerns vehicle manufacturers. However, suppliers must also be able to demonstrate the cyber security of their products, internal processes and services.

Energy-less holding in position and switching tasks

Bistable brakes are responsible for holding devices in position with just a minimum amount of energy. As a “hand brake”, they prevent vehicles from moving unintentionally.
Bistable clutches enable the engaging and disengaging of movement axes or components. Through a one-off switching pulse (rather than continuous power), electrical energy is only required for the actual switching process. In “stable operating states”, bistable elements operate without consuming any energy which is a decisive advantage particularly for battery-powered systems.

The technology behind bistable products

Operating current-actuated brakes and clutches

Thanks to frictionally or positive connection the COMBINORM products are particularly suited for precise positioning and reliable holding.

Safe release function without residual torque and no maintenance throughout their entire service life complete the performance.
